I learned a lot in the first week of getting used to this program and downloading supplemental software as well as upgrading firmware. I also needed the cords to connect the Skyview Hand Controller to the computer.īefore going directly into into APT I wanted to look into the popular SGP software especially since they give a 45-day free trial. In my case I have an Orion Sirius EQ-G (HEQ5) so I needed the ASCOM Skywatcher SynScan Mount Controller driver.
BACKYARD EOS USER MANUAL DRIVER
To do this I had to download the ASCOM driver for my mount. I switched gears a bit and I started using Stellarium to control my mount (see Controlling an Equatorial Mount with Stellarium). If successful it is possible to calculate exactly where the telescope is pointing, image orientation, resolution and etc. Plate-solving is a method that detects the stars from an image you take and then tries to identify them using catalogs of know stars. The other big thing that these programs do on an internal level is Plate-Solving. To start, I used APT on a basic level (controlling a camera) only for couple of months. I decided on Astrophotography Tool (APT) since it was given high praise, inexpensive ($20), and very similar to BYEOS. I absolutely love Backyard EOS (BYEOS) for its power and simplicity, however, I am planning on getting a dedicated astrophotography camera and will need to use a new camera control program as BYEOS works only for specific DSLRs.

Why Switch From Backyard EOS for camera control? At the bottom of the page I listed what I thought were the most helpful links to me to getting started with these programs.

There much more in depth reviews and tutorials on the web.
BACKYARD EOS USER MANUAL GENERATOR
It is a limited review of things I discovered during while installing and using both Astro Photography Tool and Sequence Generator Pro after a short period. This is by no means a complete review or tutorial. It has now been cloudy for almost 4 weeks. The time has finally come for not only controlling my camera but also my mount.
BACKYARD EOS USER MANUAL UPGRADE
This is one of the many reasons (I will post about this later) I decided to actually take the plunge and upgrade to the Canon 6D. I am not sure I understand why, but that is the reason.
BACKYARD EOS USER MANUAL MANUAL
Later that morning, I actually read the BackYard EOS manual and found out there are some of the older Canon DSLRs that in order to take exposures longer than 30 seconds you need a “serial” cable and can’t use only USB. I finished the session using my Canon infrared remote RC-6, and manually triggered 30 second shots because I didn’t know what was wrong with the setup. It was 19 deg F, I thought it might be the cold, or the cable or both. But BackYard EOS keeps giving me a warning and won’t connect.

I wanted to take it reasonably conservative, but still push it a bit, so I set the exposure times to 120 seconds. This allowed me to get familiar with BackYard EOS to the point I could use it in the dark.Īt 4am, I sneak out of the house, set up my 35 year old tripod, the SGP, polar align it. I tested 25 “light” frames at 10 second exposures on my kitchen counter. I did some test runs with BackYard EOS, a USB cable and my Canon xTi.

Sure it has the crop sensor, but I have seen some really nice astrophotography photos taken with crop sensor DSLRs. One of the pieces of equipment I thought I could get started with was my Canon xTi (400D). Before I get into the iOptron SkyGuider Pro (SGP), I want to detour and talk about what prompted me to purchase a new camera.
